Katherine M. Wylie, 71, of rural Willow Hill, IL passed away at 8:42 a.m. on Thursday, November 6, 2014 at St. John’s Hospital, Springfield, IL.
Born in Hunt Township, Jasper County, Illinois on February 17, 1943, Katherine was the daughter of Russell and Rosemary (Miller) Miller. On July 10, 1993 she married Daniel Wylie and he preceded her in death on May 17, 2007.
Katherine was a 1961 graduate from Newton Community High School; formerly employed at Ettle Brick Shoe Factory in Casey, IL.; Furniture Factory, Pontiac, IL; and owner of her own re-upholstery business; and a past member of the Eagle’s.
For many people, home is a place. For the Miller family, home was a person, Katherine Wylie, “Kate”, “Aunt Katherine” or “Sis”, was many things: traveler, quilter, reader, business owner, card player, cook, artist, wife, sister, and friend.
Katherine lived in Jasper County, Illinois, where she returned to make a home with her late husband, Dan, which was often filled with friends and family, seated around the table playing progressive rummy, Yahtzee, Cribbage, and a host of other games. Tuesday nights were spent quilting with her brother and two sisters-in-law and her house was often the center of holiday activities.
Katherine, with her love of travel, found home in many other places: she lived in Connecticut for 20 years; was embraced by her “Maine-iac” in-laws; traveled to 48 of the 50 United Stated with her many friends and family.
Her lively, firey personality is legend; everyone has a “Katherine” story. The best teller of them was Katherine herself. Her sense of humor, and her willingness to laugh at herself added a lot of joy to the many gatherings that she hosted or attended.
Kathrine’s presence in our lived was the heart and home of her family and friends. Her joy and love will be missed.
Survivors include her brothers and sisters-in-law: Donald “Don” and Pat Miller, New Berlin, IL.; Everett and Evea Miller, Willow HIll, IL.; Gerald andPhyllis Miller, West Union, IL.; and Jim and Barb Miller, Willow Hill, IL.; along with several nieces and nephews.
Preceding Katherine in death were her parents, first husband, Joseph Dunphy; second husband, Daniel L. Wylie, May 17, 2007; and her sister Christine (Miller) Kendall.
